Knowing History, Thinking Historically. Teaching American History Institute for SJUSD

This summer marks the final institue for the Knowing History, Thinking Historically Teaching American History Grant with San Juan Unified School District. 5th-, 8th-, and 11th-grade teachers will convene at CSUS to analyze "Constitutional Frameworks," this year's theme. Led by CSUS historians, teachers will explore the development of the document, how it organizes our government, and historical events that demonstrate conflicting interpretations of the document. History Project leadership will present strategies for increasing students' historical thinking and academic literacy. Aided by graduate student research assistants and History Project leadership, teachers will develop historical investigations for their classrooms rich with primary sources and engaging strategies.

UC Davis, Kerr Hall 6th Floor

Participants will set their own goals and research agendas for the library and research facilities at the University, with support from a Research Assistant. Each day, teachers will share their findings and problems with research colleagues.
