Zoot Suit. Frank Tellez, a Mexican-American youth in Los Angeles, wears popular non-military garb of the early '40s, a zoot suit: thigh-length, broad-lapelled jacket, baggy trousers pegged at the cuff, and broad-brimmed hat. The Los Angeles City Council made the wearing of zoot suits a misdemeanor after servicemen and police clashed with zoot-suiters in June, 1943. Detail of IM-M-2.
