Notes about this image:"How The Camera Lies. Photographed by Lewis Hine and represented as a child worker in the mill. The child never worked and the photograph was obtained by deception." The author was clearly pro-business. Investigators said that mill owners often stated that children like this one just "wandered" into the mill by "happenstance."
