Each session will tackle a specific classroom struggle and use a content example to explore possible solutions. Workshop 1 Topic: Teaching Tough Topics (Racialization of Slavery). Mentor Teacher Jeff Pollard and Teacher Leader Stephanie Kugler will share lesson strategies for approaching slavery and race. Sacramento State University Professor of History, Paula Austin will give a talk on how to approach this difficult topic. Discussion will extent to how to approach other difficult topics, as well.
