Teaching With Primary Sources

With the support of the Library of Congress, the History Project has offered two separate Teaching With Primary Sources Programs.


TPS I is a full day program that supports teacher efforts to:

  • Use the Library of Congress' collection of digitized primary sources
  • Design challenging inquiry based lessons
  • Work with fellow educators



TPS II is a week long summer institute that allows teachers to: 

  • Engage with historians who present case studies related to a theme and aligned with US and world history content standards
  • Explore the online resources from the Library of Congress to create opportunities for students to engage in in-depth analysis; lively discussions, and argumentative writing
  • Collaborate with fellow educators
  • Develop primary source based lessons
