TPS Landscapes in History

A Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Workshop

TPS Landscapes

We invite teachers from the K-12 classroom to join us this summer for the Landscapes in history workshop. Teacher participants in this four-day institute will use an environmental lens to explore ways to effectively integrate environmental literacy and primary sources into their history social science curriculum.

Using resources from the Library of Congress and the California Education and the Environment Initiative, teacher participants will develop ways for students to investigate connections between natural resources, geography, and climate to societies past and present.

The workshop will feature:

  • A $150 stipend for participation in the summer workshop
  • A field trip to a local landmark
  • Discussions of landscapes local, regional, and global
  • The new HSS Framework
  • Inquiry and literacy skills (including Spanish language resources)
  • 1-day follow up meeting (date TBD during summer workshop, includes an extra $50 stipend for that day)

*follow up date determined at the summer workshop by the participants. They will receive an additional $50 for their attendance.
